FAQ

Do I need to be concerned with lead based paints?

Yes, if your home was build prior to 1978. As of April 22, 2008 all contractors have to abide by the new EPA rules in lead abatement. We are completely up to date on methods of detection and removal.

For more information please visit http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/traincert.htm

Will you remain on the job site until it is completed or will you be coming and going?

Yes, the same crew that starts the project will remain on site until the project is complete.

Are you fully licensed and insured?

Yes, a certificate of our insurance is always available upon request.

What paints do you use?

Presto Painting uses only the top quality materials, such as Benjamin Moore Paints, California Paints, Sherwin Williams, Sikkens and Fine Paints of Europe.

Do I need to choose a color only from the brands you use?

The sky is the limit! (In fact, we have several shades of sky). Since paints are not pre-mixed anymore, you can choose a color from any brand you like. Just let us know the brand name and the name or number of the color you chose so we can mix the exact color you chose in a California or Benjamin Moore base.

Are references available?

References are always supplied to our customers with our proposal, but additional references are also available upon request.

How long does a painting project take?

The scope of work on every project is different; therefore, the amount of time for each project differs. Rest assured we will provide an accurate estimate to the best of our abilities and communicate with you throughout the project.

Am I, the homeowner, responsible to pull permits for carpentry or roofing work?

No, you can leave all the paperwork to us! Presto is registered and insured, so we can obtain all necessary construction permits and schedule inspections as needed.

What is the trick to a good exterior paint job?

There are three very important factors to a good exterior painting, especially with the harsh New England winters:

Good preparation: this is one of the most important factors. If the house is prepared correctly (sanded, scraped and caulked) a paint job can last many years.

Moisture detection: long New England winters saturate wood. It is very important for the wood dry completely prior to primer application.

Quality Materials: last, but certainly not least, is the paint. Fine Paints of Europe, Benjamin Moore, California & Sherwin Williams brands are the top-of-the line products on the market today.

I am planning to sell my home, what projects add the most value?

This is a great question. Most homebuyers will agree, the two most important rooms in your home are the kitchen and bathroom. These are two big factors on the final purchase decision of a new home and often the first rooms people look at when comparing houses.

I've had a bad experience with a carpenter before, why should I trust you?

We take great pride in the work we do, from carpentry and roofing to painting and interior design. We understand that the success of our business depends on the happiness of our customers, from the project inception to the completion.

What do you charge for an estimate?

Absolutely nothing. We will visit your home to evaluate the work and talk to you to hear your vision and determine the scope of the project. We will send you a written estimate with details and specifications for your review, and answer any questions you may have.
